Director Federico Alvarez sought out the special effects team from Alien 2 (1986) to work on the creatures
Narrative
While searching an abandoned space station, a group of young space colonists come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe. Director Federico Alvarez explains the rule he established for the movie “Alien: Romulus” that “if it can be practical, it will be practical”, so the actors always acted against the physical representation of the xenomorph. Physical scenery, real-life creatures and miniatures were used wherever possible to aid further work on the visual effects. When Rein disables the ship’s gravity and shoots all the aliens, all their blood hangs in the air in long, smeared patterns.

Weightlessness in real life makes liquids take the form of spheres, and not spread out into long flat pieces, as in the film. Andy: The solution for a claustrophobic astronaut is to give him more space. The fanfare of 20th Century Studios fades and becomes ominous, as in “Alien 3” (1992), preceding the film’s opening scene. The logo itself experiences a surge of static electricity and turns green.

If you like the “Alien” franchise, there is a greater chance that this film will satisfy you… Because it combines most of the notable elements that have made the franchise so popular over the years (cf. There are several hints or Easter eggs in various films of the franchise through subtle elements, characters or storylines)…
Visual language in general pretty excellent, with some really striking shots here and there (great framing and composition)
Of course, this is a product of our modern era (filming techniques, effects), but at the same time it retains most of the classic atmosphere and tonality of the “Alien” films… Yes, it may disappoint some who have a sense of ownership over the franchise, because it definitely expands and explores quite a lot of lore (and this what I personally look for in sci-fi sagas that span decades)… In addition, the lead actress (Kaylee Spaney) carries the film really well, with silent power, subtlety and intensity… So if you’re looking for a film about an alien that uses most of the old ingredients while reintroducing and/or reinventing them and exploring beyond what we’re used to…
