Narrative
After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter Astrid accidentally opens the portal to the afterlife. Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, and Monica Bellucci share why filming Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice was an experience they’ll never forget. Tim Burton said he would only make this movie if Michael Keaton returned to reprise his role.

I’ll admit, I went into this movie with no expectations, anticipation, or nostalgia for the first movie. I wasn’t sure it would be a movie for me, but when the movie started, the camera panned over the ground and the dark but open score played, I thought maybe I’d like this. In fact, the score and soundtrack were one of the highlights, although it was less Joker and more the Adams family.
It was weird, funny at times and good looking
We’re introduced to many fun and quirky characters, old and new, including three generations of the Deetz family, but I like that the movie didn’t just repeat the first one. For example, while Lydia Deetz was weird and sympathetic to the paranormal in the original film, her daughter Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, is a skeptic of all things ghostly while still managing to give off Wednesday Adams vibes. When you think about it, the story naturally had to go in a new direction while incorporating the afterlife. While the story can be over the top and indeed predictable in places, it’s fine for what it is, but it left a lot to be desired as it approached its hour and 45 minute run time.
If you liked the first one, will you enjoy this one?
Overall, I had even better fun than I expected with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and I think this can attract new fans. I can’t say, but I wish this was released closer to Halloween because it would have made for some scary fun.
